US: Republican Party's head has called for probe of Big Tech

(MENAFN) In reaction to recently revealed records revealing that Twitter withheld material unfavorable to Joe Biden in 2020, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy says the Republican Party must be prepared to probe some of the country's top digital businesses.

McCarthy stated on Saturday that the incoming Republican majority “will get answers for the American people” about Twitter’s efforts to “silence the truth about Hunter Biden’s laptop just days before the 2020 presidential election.” This will occur when the GOP takes back control of the House of Representatives in January, McCarthy clarified.

Documents launched on Friday by new Twitter CEO Elon Musk show a top-down effort by the platform's most senior staff to stifle the spread of a New York Post article alleging that Joe Biden participated in numerous pay-to-play schemes with his son's foreign business contacts while he was vice president of the United States. Even in private chats, Twitter has prohibited the distribution of links to the news.

Facebook also took steps to restrict the Hunter Biden article, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg subsequently claiming that the FBI directed him to do so.

“Now we need to start looking at Facebook, at Google. These now have become arms of the Democratic Party, arms of the Biden administration,” he stated. The potential House speaker also demanded that hundreds of former intelligence personnel be investigated for falsely claiming that the Hunter Biden story had "all the hallmarks of a Russian information campaign."

“[The Democrats] also used the intel community as well to lie to the American public. Should those people keep their clearances? Should those people still be allowed to have information?” he inquired.

“They used every arm not only of the government, but they had taken over businesses to lie to the American public,” McCarthy went on. “This is just the beginning. All this will be held up.”
