CENTCOM: ISIS Leader Killed By Free Syrian Army In Daraa

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Nov 30 (KUNA) -- The US Central Command confirmed Wednesday that IS leader Abu al-Hassan al-Qurayshi was killed by the Free Syrian army in Syria in mid-October.
'The death of Abu al-Hassan al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi in mid-October is another blow to ISIS,' US CENTCOM spokesman Col. Joe Buccino said in a press statement.
'This operation was conducted by the Free Syrian Army in Daraa province in Syria.'
He stressed that ISIS remained a threat to the region.
'CENTCOM and our partners remain focused on the enduring defeat of ISIS,' he said.
Meanwhile, the White House Spokesperson Karine jean pierre affirmed that the US did not participate in the operation that led to the death of IS leader.
'As far as any involvement by the US as it relates to -- the death of al-Qurayshi, there was no -- it was not a result of any US action, I can confirm,' Pierre said.
She added that the United States remained committed to countering the global threat from ISIS and stood ready to work with international partners who shared that same goal. (end)
