Scholz: Germany set to add to UN efforts for Cyprus remedy

(MENAFN) On the words of Germany Chancellor Olaf Scholz, his republic is prepared to contribute to UN efforts to sign a peaceful deal on the Cyprus argument.

Scholz underscored the importance of kind ties among countries in the area throughout a news conference in Berlin after assembling with Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiadis.

“Germany strongly supports a bizonal and bicommunal solution in Cyprus. Of course, the basis for this would be the relevant UN resolutions,” as declared by Scholz, mentioning the argument between the Greek Cypriot administration and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

“I hope that the stalled negotiations to solve the Cyprus question would regain momentum.
Germany is ready to support the UN-led negotiations process, if it is requested,” he added.

The German president also stressed that the Eastern Mediterranean is a region full of prospective with energy resources and financial chances.

“Developing good neighborly relations in the Eastern Mediterranean region is in the interest of all countries,“ he added and voiced hope that issues in the region would be ended by discussion and diplomacy.
