(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) In a rare show, students of government girls' degree college Wana took to streets to protest the deteriorating condition of their college.
Local sources said that the students were protesting against the closure of Government Girls Degree College Wana for past two years. The students were demanding resumption of classes in the colleges, availability of teachers and transport facility.
The protesters were carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans in favor of their demands and against the district administration and college principal.
The protesters were also chanting slogans in favor of their demands.
It is worth mentioning here that girls degree college in Wana was closed dor past two years while its staff was drawing millions of rupees in salaries every month.
The prolonged closure of this college was casting dark shadows of the future of over 4000 girls of the area.
Additional Assistant Commissioner told TNN that they have held talks with the protesters and their problems would be resolved.
Rasool Dawar, a journalist from North Waziristan said that in the past even school girls had also protested to press for similar demands. He said that most of the girls' schools in both the North and South Waziristan, which were located at some distance from main roads, have shut down.
Mr Dawar said that in many cases, teachers do not turn up for their duties and it was causing great trouble to students. Regarding Wana protest, he said that the college students were also facing several issues including closure of college, transport and absence of teachers, which these students were demanding to resolve.
Mr Dawar said that both the South and North Waziristan district were facing problems regarding female education and recently MPA from North Waziristan Mir Kalam Wazir had also submitted an adjournment motion in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly in this regard.
The adjournment motion stated that as per Benazir Income Support Programme data, more than a million children were out of school in merged districts while in 3.7 million in settled districts were also out of school.
Mr Dawar said that entire KP was facing education related problems and even children of Peshawar have not been provided text books so far.
