The Chargé d'Affaires of Afghanistan's Permanent Mission to the UN, Naseer Ahmad Faiq, said that he will not be speaking at the 77th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 77).
He stated in a series of tweets on Saturday night, September 24 that the representatives of Afghanistan and Myanmar will not be speaking at the General Assembly this year“in accordance with the agreement that was established in the General Assembly last year.”
The Afghan representative, however, confirmed that he is expected to partake and speak at the UN Security Council meeting on September 27 in reference to the situation in Afghanistan.
According to Faiq, the coming UN Security Council meeting, which will be held on Tuesday, September 27, will be focused on the current situation in Afghanistan.
Ghulam Mohammad Ishaqzai, Afghanistan's former UN representative, resigned after the collapse of the republic regime in Afghanistan last year, and Naseer Ahmad Faiq assumed charge of the Afghan mission to the UN.
The Taliban previously told the UN that Ishaqzai no longer represents Afghanistan, and the Taliban Foreign Minister, Muttaqi, nominated Mohammad Suhail Shaheen as the new representative to the UN, who was the spokesperson for the group in Qatar.
In the meantime, the Taliban government's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has released a statement stating that if the Taliban in Afghanistan is given a seat in the UN, they will represent Afghanistan in the region and the world and respond to concerns.
The Taliban rule in Afghanistan, even after over a year, has failed to receive national legitimacy and international recognition, leaving Afghanistan without a legitimate government recognized internationally.
