I am an ARC Discovery Early Career Research Award (DECRA) Fellow at the School of Geosciences at the University of Sydney. I received my PhD in physical oceanography from Stanford University in 2016. I am interested in the physics of the ocean and how it influences the Earth's climate. The ocean has absorbed over 90% of the excess heat trapped in the Earth System due to anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions, and a third of anthropogenic carbon emissions. How this heat and carbon enters the ocean, where it ends up and whether it returns to the surface depends on the ocean circulation. I study the physics of the ocean circulation and how the myriad of processes, ranging from the centimeter scales of turbulence to the 1000km scales of ocean gyres, influence how heat and other tracers are transported into and within the ocean.
