By beginning of 2023, France's EDF intends to restart nation's complete nuclear fleet

(MENAFN) By the start of next year, France intends to restart its complete nuclear fleet. State-owned EDF, one of the biggest nuclear power providers in the world, is doing everything in its power to keep its energy supply uninterrupted this winter.

The corporation was on board with the schedule, according to Agnès Pannier-Runacher, Minister of Energy Transition.

"As you know, 32 reactors are shut down, some for-stress corrosion and others for routine maintenance," according to Pannier-Runacher. "EDF has undertaken to restart all the reactors this winter. We are monitoring the situation closely with weekly updates and we are being especially vigilant to ensure that this schedule is kept."

27 nuclear reactors will need to restart by the end of December, followed by 5 more between early January and mid-February 2023, according to EDF's estimations.

Many doubt the company's capacity to do so, particularly in light of the 12 reactors that had to be shut down due to stress corrosion. They need extensive and difficult repairs. Bernard Doroszczuk, the president of the Nuclear Safety Authority, issued a warning that other issues might be found, forcing the fresh shutdown.
