“The 8th Muharram

Harram (7th August-2022) procession has been disallowed by the orders of District Magistrate Srinagar. Multiple cut off's would be established across Srinagar City to discourage the movement of people towards City Centre,” Muzaffar Ahmad Shah, Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic City Srinagar, said in a statement.

The SSP traffic said that there will be no movement of traffic on Maulana Azad Road and Residency road.

“However, Medical emergencies will be allowed via Residency Road- Hari Singh High Street towards Jehangir Chowk,” he said, adding that all vehicles coming from South Kashmir will be diverted at Pantha Chowk / Peaks crossing via Byepass.

Similarly, Shah said that the vehicles coming from North Kashmir will be diverted at Parimpora towards Byepass.

The SSP traffic also advised motorists to avoid movement on the road stretch from Karan Nagar – Jehangir Chowk – M.A Road – Dalgate –Badyari stretch.

“General Public is requested to kindly avoid unnecessary movement in Srinagar City tomorrow to avoid any inconvenience,” Shah said, adding“inconvenience if any is regretted,”

The advisory by traffic police came after the district administration announced to continue ban on the 8th Muharram procession from Guru Bazar to Dalgate citing larger public interest and threat of the procession being hijacked by secessionist groups.
