On July 5, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey intends to intensify the negotiation process regarding the opening of 'corridors' for the export of grain from Ukraine via the Black Sea and to reach a result within 7-10 days.

On February 24, Russia launched an all-out war against Ukraine. Due to Russian aggression and blockade in the Black Sea, more than 20 million tonnes of grain intended for export are stuck in Ukrainian ports. This caused the threat of global hunger, as Ukraine supplies almost half of grain under the UN World Food Program.
