(MENAFN) Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Syrian colleague Faisal Mekdad have reaffirmed their nations' unwavering commitment to resolving the region's problems, promising to respond to Israel's threats and oppose the regime's aggression.

Amir-Abdollahian and Mekdad made the statements during a joint news conference in Damascus on Saturday night, during which the two senior diplomats addressed bilateral ties, regional concerns, counterterrorism operations, and ways to oppose Israeli attacks.

“We discussed issues of common interest between the two countries and ways of enhancing permanent and long-term cooperation to serve the people of the two countries,” Amir-Abdollahian stated.

Underscoring Syria's territorial integrity, Amir-Abdollahian stated that Syria is in the vanguard of the struggle against the phony and occupying Israeli regime, adding that the Syrian government, leadership, and people would not allow the Zionists to jeopardize regional and national security.

“We continue to offer unwavering support for the resistance to ensure lasting security in the region against the threats posed by the fake Israeli regime,” the top Iranian diplomat noted.

Amir-Abdollahian condemned the Israeli aggression against Syria and stressed that “Iran will continue supporting Syria to counter the terrorist war it has been facing,” promising the Islamic Republic’s help for the unity, integrity, and safety of the Syrian territory.
