British Airways employees at London's Heathrow Airport decide to strike

(MENAFN) British Airways employees at London's Heathrow airport have decided to strike for higher pay, potentially disrupting the UK's largest airport amid an already stressful summer for fly travelers.

According to the GMB union, 95 percent of BA personnel at Heathrow airport who voted supported the strike on Thursday, as air travelers throughout Europe have already endured significant delays and cancellations of hundreds of flights in recent weeks, according to Reuters.

According to the survey, airports throughout Europe are grappling with a dearth of skilled personnel and high post-COVID demand. Any strike by Heathrow employees is likely to exacerbate the situation.

Workers' unions claim that demands for a 10 percent salary decrease imposed during the epidemic to be reversed have not been honored. Around 700 workers were polled, with 80 percent voting in favor of the strike.

The walkout affects less than half of the airline's Heathrow-based check-in and ground personnel, who work mostly with customers.

The walkout will most likely take place during the busy summer holiday time over the following two months, according to GMB, which said Heathrow would likely face a "summer of strikes."
