Doha: A high-level delegation from Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has participated in the 18th meeting of the Committee of Senior Officials of Red Crescent Societies and Authorities in the countries of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), as well as the preliminary meetings.

Held at the headquarters of the Secretariat-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the meetings were attended by Red Crescent leaders and senior government officials in GCC countries.

QRCS's delegation comprised Vice-President Prof. Aisha Yousef Al Mannai; Secretary-General Ali bin Hassan Al Hammadi; Board Member Eng. Rashid Saad Al Mohannadi; Executive Director of the Medical Affairs Division Abdullah Sultan Al Qattan; Director of Volunteering and Local Development Division Muna Fadel Al Sulaiti, and Director of Communication and Public Relations Mohamed Rashid Al Marri.

At the conclusion of sessions, the participants recommended a set of decisions following the discussion of agenda items, mainly approval of the 3rd Gulf Forum for Voluntary Work of GCC Red Crescent organisations to be held in Saudi Arabia.

Under the theme 'Volunteering is life', the two-day event will be organised by the Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA) in December.

The participants emphasised stronger strategic partnerships with friendly countries, especially Jordan, Morocco, Iraq, and Sudan, as well as building humanitarian cooperation with other countries, particularly during emergencies.

All GCC Red Crescent technical committees would continue to monitor their COVID-19 control efforts during and after the pandemic, with a consolidated report to be developed for the purpose of documentation.

Other meeting agenda items sought enhanced inter-member relations, including the Volunteer Service Award and GCC Red Crescent Day. Discussions covered specialised workshops to train humanitarian media professionals, a memorandum of understanding between the GCC Secretariat-General and the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organisation (ARCO), and coordinated and unified positions at regional and international organisations.

The committee's meeting was preceded by a preparatory meeting of GCC Red Crescent senior officials.

HRH Prince Abdullah bin Faisal Al Saud, Executive Director of International Cooperation and Humanitarian Response at SRCA, stressed the importance of continued coordination on humanitarian and relief issues of common interest for GCC organisations, with a view to building capacity, exchanging expertise, improving performance, and overcoming shared challenges.

He also called for unified approaches to various fields of work, especially as the challenges facing the region necessitate closer partnership and coordination among GCC National Societies.

QRCS's delegation visited ARCO's headquarters in Riyadh, and held a meeting with Dr. Saleh Al Tuwaijri, the organisation's Secretary-General, to discuss issues of common interest.

During a visit to the Arab Centre for Disaster Preparedness, they were briefed on the state-of-the-art technologies and techniques to monitor environmental disasters.
