Top European promotion OKTAGON MMA will be making their debut on German soil Saturday, June 4. Known for producing high calibre events, this will be the third country the promotion has visited. Ahead of their event, OKTAGON 33, the organisation is working closely with the German Mixed Martial Arts Federation (GEMMAF), which is sanctioning the event.
By sanctioning the event, GEMMAF will provide all officials and set standards for the athletes. GEMMAF President, Clemens Werner, has previously worked for the promotion in a different capacity. He explained the role of the federation for this event and highlighted they are working closely with the Czech Republic federation ahead of the event.
“The federation is responsible for making sure that the event is regulated properly. For example, the federation is setting the standards for the safety regulations for athletes (medical checks etc.) as well as providing the officials like referees and judges. As OKTAGON MMA is a Czech-Slovak promotion, the German and the Czech Republic federation are working closely together to sanction this event.
“From my previous work as a judge for OKTAGON, I know they are a very professional organisation. Even though OKTAGON is a big and professional organisation they are still open to suggestions for improvement. As a result, there will be monitors for the judges for the first time, and a full team of inspectors will be working the event. So overall, it is a pleasant and fruitful cooperation.”
OKTAGON MMA co-founder,Pavol Neruda, spoke highly of the federation and is happy to work with them. The relationship between both parties looks to be just the beginning as the promotion aims to return to Germany for future events and help grow the sport in Germany together with GEMMAF.
“We are very happy to cooperate with GEMMAF. We saw GEMMAF many years back, and it's the biggest MMA federation in Germany and the most valuable. We are happy to cooperate with them. We have referees and judges from them, and we are always very proud and satisfied with their work and the professionalism they bring to our tournaments. So for us, it is a very natural step to come to Germany and work at GEMMAF.
“We are looking forward to further cooperation and making MMA bigger in Germany. And more glorious, and for fans, we want to bring them a big show at a professional level from all kinds of perspectives, including the rules and referees. So the fans can rely on the results after the fights, they can trust the judges to do their work, and we think that GEMMAF is the right partner for this job.”
The card itself will feature some of the top talents from across Europe. A title bout between Ivan Buchinger and Losene Keita will top the billing, while German fan favourite Christian Eckerlin features earlier on the card.
This is just a snippet of some of the work done by the federation in Germany. As well as sanctioning events in Germany, they have been helping grow the sport at an amateur level. They recently relaunched their amateur rankings system, and a regional qualifier event is scheduled for later this month.
