Katara Names Qur'an Recitation Contest Winners

Katara - The Cultural Village Sunday announced the winners of the fifth edition of the Katara Prize for Qur'an Recitation Competition. An official statement said, Bilal Abdel Hamid Mohamed (Egypt) won the first prize of QR500,000, Mohamed Qastali (Morocco) the second prize of QR300,000 and Ahmed al-Sayyid al-Ghitani (Egypt) won the third prize of QR100,000.
The 26 episodes of the competition were telecast by Qatar TV. There were 966 contestants from 48 countries, including 16 Arab and 32 non-Arab countries. The event was under the official sponsorship of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf).
Katara director general Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti congratulated the winners and pointed out that the fourth and fifth editions of the competition were held remotely due to the Covid-19 restrictions.
He hoped that the pandemic would be completely eradicated in time for the sixth edition of the contest in 2023.
