Suicide Attack On AU Base In Somalia Kills Five


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ALGIERS, May 3 (KUNA) -- Five people were killed in a suicide attack on an African Union (AU) troop army in Somalia on Tuesday, according to news reports.
A bomb car targeted the AU base in Shabelle Region in southern Somalia, security sources were quoted by the Algerian Radio as saying.
The Somali militant group, Al-Shabaab, has issued a statement, claiming responsibility for the suicide attack.
The bombing triggered off a fierce battle between Al-Shabaab militants and AU forces, the sources said.
Al-Shabaab has been waging a deadly insurgency against Somalia's fragile central government for more than a decade. (end)
