The number of building permits issued in August by municipalities in Qatar has increased by 18 percent compared to previous month, according to data released by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA).
The PSA released the eightieth issue of the monthly Statistics of Building Permits and Building Completion certificates issued by all municipalities in the country. The total number of permits issued by the municipalities reached 626 in August.
Building permits and building completion certificates data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator for the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy.
According to their geographical distribution, municipality of Al Rayyan comes at the top of the municipalities where the number of building permits issued were 177 permits, with 28 percent of the total issued permits, while municipality of Al Da'ayen came in second place with 131 permits, followed by Doha municipality of with 126 permits, then municipality of Al Wakrah with 97 permits.
In terms of type of permits issued, data indicates that the new building permits (residential and non-residential) constitutes 46 percent (290 permits) of the total building permits issued during the month of August 2021, while the percentage of additions permits constituted 50 percent (316 permits), and finally fencing permits with 3 percent (20 permits).
By analyzing new residential buildings permits data, we find that villas' top the list, accounting for 72 percent (168 permits) of all new residential buildings permits, followed by dwellings of housing loans permits by 19 percent (45 permits) and apartments buildings by 7 percent (17 permits).
On the other hand, commercial buildings were found to be in the forefront of non-residential buildings permits with 51 percent (29 permits), followed by governmental buildings and industrial buildings e.g., workshops and factories with 18 percent (10 permits) each, then mousqes with 11 percent (6 certificates).
In terms of building completion certificates issued during the month of August 2021, Al Rayyan municipality and come at the top of the municipalities where the number of building completion certificates issued were 112 certificates, while municipality of Al Wakrah came in second place with 78 certificates, followed by municipality of Al Doha with 62 certificates, then municipality of Al Al Da'ayen with 61 certificates.
In terms of type of certificates issued, data indicated that the new building completion certificates (residential and non-residential) constitutes 68 percent (254 certificates) of the total building certificates issued during the month of August 2021, while the percentage of additions certificates constituted 32 percent (119 certificates).
