UNSC strongly condemns terrorist attack in Iraq

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW YORK, July 21 (KUNA) -- UN Security Council (UNSC) members on Wednesday deplored "in the strongest terms" the "cowardly terrorist" assault on the Iraqi city of Sadr, east of Baghdad, on Monday.
The blast took place in a city market, leaving 30 people dead and at least 50 others wounded.
In a press statement, the members reiterated that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most dangerous threats to international security and peace.
They also renewed their support to Iraq's independence, sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity and democratic process.
The Council's members urged all countries to actively cooperate with the Iraqi government and all other relevant authorities, in line with international humanitarian law and the UNSC resolutions, it noted.
Furthermore, the members reiterated their backing to Iraq's security and continuing war against "terrorism", including the so-called Islamic State, the statement concluded. (end)
