Achievement tests to measure students'' academic level


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: Students of third, sixth and ninth grades in public schools will take achievement tests at the end of the second semester.

The tests aim at measuring the academic achievement of school students in the curriculum for the second semester, said the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in a statement.

The Student Evaluation Department represented by the committees for the achievement tests, will prepare test papers for subjects of Islamic studies, Arabic language, English language, science, mathematics and social studies. Achievement tests are a tool for identifying and determining students’ achievement level, and are prepared by a team that includes all parties to the educational process. 

It will be implemented within the examination schedule circulated by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. The achievement test score is calculated at 40 percent of the student’s total score during the academic year.
The achievement tests aim to measure the academic achievement of school students within the curriculum of the second semester, at the end of the third, sixth and ninth academic levels in the subjects of Arabic, English, science, mathematics, Islamic education, and social studies.

In April, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education had issued a circular to the directors of public schools and private schools that apply national standards regarding achievement tests. 

As per the circular, schools hold skills tests for Arabic, English and Islamic education according to the specification tables sent by the Student Evaluation Department. 

Schools also prepare alternative exams for students of additional educational support (third level). Schools also prepare tests for visual arts, computing and information technology.

The Student Evaluation Department also held a meeting with school principals to familiarise them with the nature of achievement tests and their importance, in the framework of preparing for the end of second semester exams for the academic year 2020-21.

In the same context, the Student Evaluation Department issued general guidelines that include introducing achievement tests, all information related to holding exams, instructions related to exam performance, and others related to the precautionary measures that will be applied during the exams.
