Nigeria causes flood of refugees into neighboring Niger’s Maradi district
(MENAFN)According to the UN refugee agency, violence in northwest Nigeria caused a flood of refugees into neighboring Niger’s Maradi region.
Around 7,660 refugees directed Nigeria to the south-central Maradi region as well as 3,500 citizens of Niger who are relocated in just two months, stated the UNHCR.
The UNHCR declared that “The Maradi region, in southern Niger, now hosts nearly 100,000 displaced people, including 77,000 Nigerian refugees, who have fled relentless attacks in Katsina, Sokoto, and Zamfara states.”
The state governor indicated that over 200 schoolgirls were abducted by gunmen in Nigerian state of Zamfara. The abducted schoolgirls were freed on Tuesday.
