Yemen urges int'l orgs to save civilians, displaced in Marib

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ADEN, Feb 27 (KUNA) -- The Yemeni government on Saturday called on international humanitarian agencies to help save the lives of civilians and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Marib Governorate that has been witnessing a military escalation and shelling by Houthis for the third week.
Since early February, Marib has been suffering from the fiercest and largest Houthi drones and ballistic missiles attacks, Yemeni Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Only on Friday evening the city has been attacked by ten ballistic missiles, it added.
Since the Houthi coup, Marib has been hosting more than two million IDPs who fled from the Houthi attacks in search for safety, it noted.
The ministry expressed surprise of the international humanitarian organizations silence on these acts.
Earlier today, local authorities announced that more than 12,000 people have fled their camps in western the country due to the ferocious battles there.
Marib is hosting 60 percent of the total displaced people in Yemen. (end)
