Biden Administration will keep special envoy to Afghan peace Talks, Zalmay Khalizad, CNN reports.

Three sources familiar with the issue, have confirmed to CNN that Trump's Top envoy will remain in the Biden Administration.

According to the report, the move is not typical, and that traditionally incoming administrations replace politically appointed officials with their own team, particularly in foreign policy matters.

This would demonstrate the Biden administration's commitment to maintaining adherence to the US-Taliban agreement until the new team reviews the overall process in detail and develop their own Afghanistan policy.

It has been two years, that Khalilzad was on the job when Trump was in the power, his negotiations with the Taliban led to a US peace agreement with the militant group in February 2020.

Khalilzad has also served as US ambassador to Afghanistan, Iraq, and the United Nations, he is a well-known figure in American foreign policy.

State Department has not yet commented about Khalilzad being on board, CNN indicated.

Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken previously during his confirmation hearing reiterated, that the new administration's commitment to ending the prolonged war in Afghanistan, but has not yet been comprehensively briefed on the US-Taliban agreement.
