Kuwait- Gulf bloc seeks deeper economic cooperation amid virtual trade talks

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Sept 24 (KUNA) -- Commerce ministers from across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), including Kuwait, came together via video call on Thursday to examine how the region can bounce back from coronavirus-induced economic stagnation.
The talks, with Kuwaiti Commerce Minister Khaled Al-Roudhan among the participants, focused on the "next phase" of post-coronavirus economic recovery, said a commerce ministry statement, citing sustainable food security as a common long-term goal.
Economic challenges facing GCC economies were also discussed, including factors that could encumber the growth of small and medium enterprises, in addition to an integrated platform for consumer protection laws, added the statement.
Such talks are imperative to set plans in motion amid efforts to nudge up economic growth across the Gulf region, it added. (end)
