United States independent declaration on revisit of UN sanctions on Iran unlawful, annulled
(MENAFN) On Sunday September 20 Zhang Jun China's permanent representative to the United Nations wrote a letter to the president of the Security Council and UN secretary-general, stating resistance to the United States independent declaration on the comeback of UN sanctions on Iran on September 19.
Zhang stated in his letter that the United States unilaterally withdraw as of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in May 2018, and is no longer a JCPOA participant, consequently, it is unlawful for the United States to command the Security Council invoke the snapback mechanism.
In reply to the United States letter dated August 20, 13 members of the Security Council previously wrote to the president of the Council and clearly stated that any choice or action resultant as of the United States letter is devoid of any lawful, political or practical result, their outlook was as well reproduced by the president in his close on August 25.
Zhang highlighted that given the above, the snapback mechanism shall not be deemed as appealed to the supplies of resolutions 1696 (2006), 1737 (2006), 1747 (2007), 1803 (2008), 1835 (2008) and 1929 (2010) will carry on to be terminated pursuant to OP 7 (a) of Resolution 2231 following September 20.
