Senior al-Shabab leader killed in targeted military attack in S. Somalia


(MENAFN) A spokesman for the Somali National Army and local forces announced on Monday that a senior leader in al-Shabab militia was killed in a targeted military attack.

According to a statement issued by Mohamed Isak Ali, governor of Bardale town, the latest operation which targeted the militants in Bardale, a town in the southern region of Bay, followed a tip-off from the public.

The governor also stated that "There was a stiff confrontation between the army and the militants, but we overpowered them, killing five of them, including Ibrahim Moalim Abdi, a senior leader who was in charge of operations in Qansah dherer, Bardale and Awdinle towns."

He added that the army will increase operations against other senior al-Shabab leaders hiding in the city.
