Delhi violence: Gambhir visits injured cops in hospital
New Delhi, Feb 25 (IANS) East Delhi MP Gautam Gambhir on Tuesday visited DCP Shahdara Amit Sharma, ACP Anuj Jain and Head Constable Yashpal in hospital after they were seriously injured on Monday during the violent anti-CAA protests in northeast Delhi which have claimed seven lives so far, including a constable.
Gambhir strongly condemned the violent protesters and those making provocative speeches. The BJP MP said, "Nothing can be solved through violence. The solution of any issue comes only through dialogue. The government is ready to have a discussion and clear every doubt. There should be strict action against those who have indulged in violence. Violence is not the identity of Delhi. All of us have always lived with love and peace."
On Monday, a Delhi Police head constable was killed as pro- and anti-CAA groups battled each other even as Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal appealed to the people to maintain peace and harmony.
A head constable, Ratan Lal, lost his life while a youth was injured in the clashes. The youth was injured by a bullet fired by the unruly protesters, while several vehicles and a house in the vicinity were set ablaze.
Several areas including Jaffrabad, Maujpur, and Gokulpuri remained tense. The police used tear gas in a bid to control the violence.
