Egypt- ITIDA revokes SNS license to practice electronic signature activity
The Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) has announced the revocation of License No. 103 of 2010 issued to the Egyptian Company for Network Services and Information Security (SNS) to carry out the electronic signature activity.
The authority explained that the revocation of the licence was based on the Authority's Board of Directors Decision No. 14 of 2019. In a statement today, it indicated that the termination of the licence came as a result of the company's non-adherence to the terms of the licence and its repeated violations, the most prominent of which was stopping the provision of authorised services and closing the company's headquarters without notification or obtaining written approval from the authority.
ITIDA said that the company failed to appoint qualified technical cadres to provide those services, beside not renewing maintenance contracts for hardware and software despite their aging. According to ITIDA, the company also violated the technical standards specified in the executive regulations of the electronic signature law and the licensing terms granted to them and their failure to remedy those violations that the authority has repeatedly monitored.
Hence, this would harm the electronic signature system and hinder the implementation of the state's digital transformation plan, which includes enabling and disseminating the use of those services.
The authority notified the company of the decision to terminate the license and stopped its activity on the 18th of September.
Accordingly, it started termination procedures and is taking the necessary legal, financial, and technical measures within the framework of the role of the root authority for electronic signature in the authority, in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 15 of 2004 and its executive regulations.
The Authority's Board of Directors has received technical reports from the Supreme Root Authority for electronic signatures, the authority's electronic signature licenses department, and periodic review committees for firms licenced for these violations.
