Afghanistan- 6 Mining Contracts Inked with Local Companies, 2 in Pipeline

(MENAFN- Daily Outlook Afghanistan) KABUL - The Ministry of Mines and petroleum has signed six contracts of sand and gravel excavation with local companies, an official said on Wednesday.
Acting Mines and Petroleum Minister Enayatullah Momand told reporters here the natural reservoirs of sand and gravel the contracts of which had been inked situated in Maidan Wardak, Parwan and Bamyan provinces.
In addition, the contracts of Jabal Seraj and Samangan Cements had been sent to the cabinet for approval, he added.
He said the companies would make over 86 million afghani investment in these mines and would take care of environmental vulnerabilities and remain committed to their social responsibilities as well.
Momand said with the excavation of these mines 250 people would be able to get direct while 500 others would get indirect jobs.
The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has set out its priorities and plans for managing the country's extractive industries, and the ministry is adapting its extractive sector strategy to ensure it is properly implemented.
According to the strategy, the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has surveyed 147 sites in 29 provinces and got the approval of the High Economic Council and the Cabinet to extract construction materials to meet the needs of the people in the field of construction.
He said that due to the need for cement in the construction sector, negotiations on the signing of Jabal Saraj and Samangan cement projects were finalized and sent to the Cabinet for approval
Momand added that the two companies are expected to produce two million tonnes of cement a year. (Pajhwok)
