Jordan participates in UN Convention against Corruption Conference

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Abu Dhabi, Dec.19 (Petra) - Board Chairman of the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission (IACC), Mohannad Hijazi, said Jordan works to align national legislation in line with provisions of the United Nations Convention against Corruption.
Hijazi made his remarks during his participation at the 8th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption, currently being held in the Emirati capital, Abu Dhabi.
He noted the recent amendments endorsed the current Integrity and Anti-Corruption Law, confirming the IACC's independence, and expanding its powers.
Under the amendments, the commission is granted the right to follow up on the "abnormal growth" of wealth among officials included in the Illicit Gain Law, Hijazi said, adding the legislation also authorized the IACC to engage  in retrieving money collected from corruption cases, as well as the inclusion of international institutions' employees in law, in addition to issuing regulations to protect witnesses and experts.
Jordan has issued, in light of the agreement, a national charter for integrity that resulted in the promulgation of the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Law and the adoption of national integrity standards by implementing the principle of the rule of law, justice, equality, equal opportunity, good governance, transparency and accountability, he pointed out.
The conference brings together thousands of participants from 185 countries, and features several activities and meetings on cooperation between the financial control and accounting bodies with the anti-corruption agencies.
