Sri Lanka- TNA disappointed with 'Yahapalanayas' decision

(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) said that it was disappointed with the decision taken by some United National Party members to oppose abolishing the Executive Presidency.

TNA Parliamentarian M.A. Sumanthiran tweeted saying "Disappointed with the 'Yahapalanayas' who oppose the move to abolish EP. Selfishness and opportunism at its worst. Abandoning your promises and mandates got over quarter of a century? @TNAmediaofficewill support abolishion at whatever time based on policy and not expediency".

Several United National Party Ministers today rejected a proposal by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to abolish the Executive Presidency before the upcoming Presidential elections.

A special cabinet meeting was convened today to discuss abolishing the Executive Presidency.

However, UNP Deputy Leader and Presidential hopeful Sajith Premadasa said that he and several others rejected the move.

He said that it was unethical to propose abolishing the Executive Presidency when Presidential elections have been declared.
