Doha: The Turkish Red Crescent (Kızılay) honoured Qatar Charity (QC) in recognition of its efforts in supporting Kızılay's relief initiatives and achieving its humanitarian goals, and in appreciation of the strategic partnership between the two parties.

Faisal Rashid Al Fehaida, Assistant to CEO in the International Operations and Partnerships Sector at Qatar Charity, received the top honour during the celebration of Kızılay's 151st anniversary held in the Turkish city of Istanbul, which was attended by its President Dr Karam Kink; Minister of Health, Dr Farahuddin Khoja, and the Head of Religious Affairs, Dr Ali Erbash.

Faisal Rashid Al Fehaida expressed his pleasure at receiving the honour and appreciated the partnership of Qatar Charity with the Turkish Red Crescent in the implementation of many relief and humanitarian projects.

'We are honoured to sign strategic agreements with the Turkish Red Crescent to implement projects, a large part of which have been allocated for the benefit of the Syrian displaced and refugees, Al Fehaida said in a press statement, emphasising that cooperation would continue and grow during the coming period.

During the ceremony held at the Istanbul Convention and Exhibition Center, the awards were distributed to both Turkish and foreign donors, as well as some role model individuals were honoured with awards.  It is worth mentioning that Qatar Charity signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Turkish Red Crescent in December 2016. It includes cooperation in the various humanitarian fields inside and outside Turkey, focusing on emergency response, shelter, health, disaster preparedness, water, sanitation, food security, and livelihoods.

Since the signing of the MoU, cooperation between the two parties has increased in the above-mentioned fields. This cooperation is also expected to continue at an accelerated rate during the coming period.

Among the significant projects supported by Qatar Charity in cooperation with the Turkish Red Crescent is the community centre project in a city near Istanbul. During January, an agreement was signed to support the centre in for one year.
