Germany's Merkel hails Turkish strategic importance
(MENAFN) Germany enjoys common interests with Turkey, Chancellor Angela Merkel emphasized while highlighting the strategic significance of Turkey for the sake of the country.
Speaking to daily Suddeutsche Zeitung, the German chancellor affirmed that "our political values differ in many areas and yet we have common interests."
Chancellor Merkel further underlined the vital part Turkey plays in the political settlement for Syria as well as the battle against terrorism.
Merkel added: "foreign policy is always conducted as a mixture of values and interests, and one also needs to find the right balance here."
She further rejected the stance of German opposition parties against the policy of her government towards Turkey.
