Algeria's army chief rejects presidential poll delay
(MENAFN) Algeria's presidential election ought to commence as scheduled since it was the single means for the crisis to come to an end, stressed Army Chief of Staff Ahmed Gaid Salah.
"In order to respect the Constitution and state institutions, we have to work to create as soon as possible best conditions for holding the presidential election on July 4," the army chief affirmed.
Salah added "the election will elect a legitimate president who will be tasked with the mission of fulfilling the popular demands and putting the country on the track of progress and construction."
Despite the presidential election being set for July 4, a number of appeals were made for the polls to be postponed as massive demonstrations are yet to cease.
