Amman, Apr. 22 (Petra) -- Jordan has attended the meetings of the Asian Parliament Assembly's Standing Committee on Economic and Sustainable Development held in Naryan-Mar north of Russia.

Representing the Kingdom were Assistant Speaker of the Lower House, Ibrahim Abul Sayyed, and Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Nidal Ta'ani.

In a statement on Monday, Abul Sayyed called on Asian countries to cooperate to enhance sustainable development and invest in Jordan's alternative energy sector.

He also called for standing by "oppressed" countries, including Palestine, to achieve security and stability and boost sustainable development in these countries.

He said that practical steps should be taken to help these countries address the issues of energy, poverty and unemployment.

Ta'ani pointed out the political and economic challenges facing Jordan and its role in regional issues, and the impact these obstacles have on sustainable development in the Kingdom.

He stated that the proposals discussed during the meetings would help enhance parliamentary work and bring views closer together on issues of common interest of member countries.
