Ethiopia to deploy naval base in Eritrea
(MENAFN) Ethiopian officials has stated that a French-built Ethiopian Navy will be centered in Massawa, Eritrea, soon in the upcoming days.
According to Djibouti's President Isma'l Omar Guelleh, the move will be a part of the improvements for the country's military and economic ties with Ethiopia.
French President Emmanuel Macron told Guelleh that France has agreed in a new deal to help the noncoastal country to build a navy in Massawa under the supervision of Eritrean government.
During his visit to Ethiopia last month, President Macron said 'this unprecedented defense cooperation agreement provides a framework... and notably opens the way for France to assist in establishing an Ethiopian naval component.'
