Kenya: 10 die in road crash

(MENAFN) Over ten people have died as dozens more were wounded on Sunday morning after a commuter bus crashed with a truck on a major highway in western Kenya.

Nakuru County Police Commander Stephen Matu declared that the bus, designed to carry up to 65 passengers, was heading from Bungoma to Nairobi when it crashed with the truck on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway at 1:00 a.m. local time (2200 GMT-1).

"The drivers of the two vehicles died on the spot while three others succumbed to injuries during treatment."

"The accident occurred at a sharp bend corner. From our observations the bus might have been overtaking since it had joined the lane for oncoming traffic. Seven people died on the spot," according to Joseph Korir, a local government official who was at the scene.
