Namibia busts USD 700,000 value of illicit drugs

(MENAFN) Namibia's Drug Law Enforcement Unit seized illicit drugs of around 9.5 million Namibian dollars (USD 700,000) value from October 2018 to January 2019.

Namibian Police spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi confirmed that 423 suspects have been detained, including 313 Namibian nationals.

Drugs that were captured range from mandrax, cocaine powder, as well as crack cocaine, while in December 2018 police busted 480,481 kilograms of cannabis.

Over the years, Namibia had been seen as a station for drug dealing, however, the latest figures revealed that Namibia had changed into a consuming nation, according to Kanguatjivi.
