Turkish, Jordanian leaders agree to expand coop


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISTANBUL, Feb 2 (KUNA) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and King Abdullah II, of Jordan, agreed Saturday to enhance the economic and investment cooperation.

During their summit meeting held here in the president of senior officials from both countries, the two leaders shared the desire to take the bilateral relations in all fields to a new height.

The talks dealt also with regional issues with emphasis on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the crisis in Syria, according to Turkish diplomatic sources.

The two leaders underscored the need to intensify the international efforts to end the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories and establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

They also called for enabling the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to continue offering vital relief for the Palestinians, including the educational and health services.

On Syria, the two leaders reiterated the call for a political solution to the conflict that could ensure the sovereignty, territorial integrity and national unity of the Arab country.

They reviewed the regional and international efforts to combat terrorism, the sources added.

Upon invitation from President Erdogan, King Abdullah II and his party arrived here this evening on an official visit to Turkey. (end) ta.gb
