Strong earthquake rattles off eastern Indonesia


(MENAFN) The meteorology and geophysics agency declared that a strong earthquake of a6.2 magnitude startled off Indonesia's eastern province of Maluku on Saturday, however no tsunami threat was announced.

The quake had been leveled down to 6.2 magnitude from the initial 6.6 magnitude, Wahyu Kurniawan, according to an official in charge of the agency.

The quake took place at 15:12 p.m. Jakarta time (0812 GMT).

He confirmed: "We have not issued a warning for tsunami so far."
