Arab League, OIC call for more coordination to support Palestinian cause


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Aug 14 (KUNA) -- The Arab League and Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) called Tuesday for coordination of efforts to support the Palestinian cause.
This came during a meeting between Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Abul Gheit and OIC Secretary General Yusuf Al-Othaimeen to discuss the Palestinian cause, the pan-Arab body said in a statement.
The two men reiterated importance of supporting UNRWA to overcome its financial crisis in order to enable it continue provision of services for the Palestinian people.
They also discussed regional crises, like Yemen, as well as bilateral cooperation in political, economic, social and cultural domains.
Meanwhile, Al-Othaimeen met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri and called for solving crises in the area politically, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
Shukri underlined important role of OIC because it was the beacon of joint Islamic action.
He called for further cooperation and coordination between OIC and Al-Azhar institute to counter terrorism and extremism, as well as Islamophobia. (end) mfm.esm.bs
