ANKARA, Dec 22 (KUNA) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday welcomed the UN General Assembly (UNGA) rejection of the recent US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Addressing a ruling party meeting, Erdogan said: "It should be known that democracy is not a perception, a system or a regime where you can buy [good] will," referring to US threats ahead of the UN vote on Jerusalem.
Washington had threatened to withhold its aid from those countries which voted for the UNGA decision.
The Turkish president thanked those countries that backed the resolution and called on Washington to review its move on Jerusalem.
The nonbinding resolution, sponsored by Turkey and Yemen, was approved by 128 countries with nine voting against. (end) rs.mt
