Baku, Azerbaijan, Nov. 22

By Anvar Mammadov - Trend:

Compulsory medical insurance will be introduced in two districts of Azerbaijan in 2018, said the country's Finance Minister Samir Sharifov Nov. 22 answering the questions of MPs during the discussions on the state budget for 2018 at a plenary session of the parliament.

'This year we implemented a pilot project on compulsory medical insurance in two regions of Azerbaijan and now it is necessary to analyze the results of the pilot project,' he said.

'I think that the compulsory medical insurance principles will be applied in two more districts of Azerbaijan in 2018," Sharifov said.

A pilot project for the introduction of compulsory medical insurance has been implemented in Mingachevir and Yevlakh districts since late 2016.

The minister also commented on the statements of some MPs about a decrease in social expenditures of the state budget, stressing that he disagrees with them.

"The social expenditures of the state budget have remained at least at the same level as in the current year,' he said. 'It is necessary to take into account that labor pensions will be indexed next year, which also means growth.'

The minister also disagreed with the statement that the funds for financing students have been cut.

Sharifov added that according to the new mechanism, students, studying on a paid basis, get scholarships.
