Israeli memorial rally to mark 1995 Rabin assassination
(MENAFN)A memorial rally for slain Israeli premier Yitzhak Rabin was organized on Saturday, and organizers tried to ban political speeches in order to stress a message of unity across political divides.
"We want to hold the rally this year under a banner that unites rather than divides us." confirmed Darkenu, member of a group that says on its English-language website that it speaks for "the moderate majority."
Thousands of people attended the rally, and TV cameras fixed on buildings overlooking central Tel Aviv's Rabin Square displayed the amount of people overflowing in the large public space.
Rabin was killed on November 4, 1995, in Tel Aviv at the square which now bears his name.
