Besieged Syria region hit by hunger crisis calls for aid

(MENAFN)The besieged rebel-held Eastern Ghouta area near Damascus has reported a humanitarian crisis is invading the area, therefor dozens of trucks carrying aid for 40,000 people on Monday entered the place in an effort to help.

Painful images of severely underweight children from the region were displayed earlier this month and doctors are reporting cases of death due to malnutrition and related complications.

Help was sent to the suffering people of Ghouta, and The United Nations and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) said a joint aid convoy had entered the area on Monday, carrying food and medical supplies.

"We entered Eastern Ghouta... we are planning on delivering aid to Kafr Batna and Saqba today for 40,000 people." confirmed Linda Tom, spokeswoman for the UN's humanitarian coordination agency, OCHA.
