China, Bangladesh team up to build USD1.5b power plant


(MENAFN) Bangladesh closed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) pact with a consortium of two Chinese firms for the installation of nearly USD1.56bn coal-fired power plant.

Specifically, the Chinese companies are NPEC and CECC, and the Bengali side is represented by the Bangladesh-China Power Company Limited (BCPCL), which is a joint venture between the China and Bangladesh.

Additionally, the conglomerate of the Chinese corporations is assigned for the plant's engineering, procurement and construction operations whereas BCPCL is executing agency.

Furthermore, the facility which is to be built on a 397-hectare land is a part of the government's plot to set up a series of coal-fired power schemes to produce 20,000MW electricity by 2030.
