Pakistan- Chitral Lady Police arrests women harasser

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) CHITRAL: Chitral Lady Police on Thursday arrested the suspect seen in a viral video teasing the women in Kalash Valley of Chitral.

District Police Officer (DPO) Chitral Mansoor Aman said the suspect, identified as Aimal Khan, was arrested by Chitral Lady Police from Peshawar. He said the purpose of arresting the suspect through women police was to deliver a message that the women of Chitral are not weak. He thanked the people who uploaded the video on the social media to bring the incident into the notice of the law enforcers.

A video of a two years old incident was shared on the social media few days ago in which a man is seen forcibly taking pictures and making video of Kalash women passing by. Despite the refusal by the women, the man keeps on making footage. The women then start walking quickly and hide their faces.

The video soon went viral on the social media after which Chitral Deputy Commissioner Irshad Ali took notice of the matter and a case was registered against the suspect on Wednesday. Police team was formed for the arrest of the suspect after his identification. Media reports said the suspect was a policeman and he lived in Peshawar.

Police said a Women and Children Support Centre has been established in Chitral that will tend to all complaints regarding sexual misdemeanours. It said that in future similar incidents should be reported to anti-harassment units consisting of Kalash men and women.
