UAE- 3,226 fined for violating environment regulations

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) As many as 3,226 people have been fined for being involved in anti-environment violations across Ras Al Khaimah this year.

Of these, 42 were fined for barbecuing on natural green areas, according to Ahmed Hamad Al Shehi, advisor to the department of public works and environment in Ras Al Khaimah.

"The 3,226 tickets issued this year included 628 in May, 750 in April, 625 in March, 480 in February, and 763 in January."

Al Shehi added that Jebel Jais, the highest peak in the country, saw the biggest number of anti-environment violations. "Up to 146 violations were registered at the Jebel Jais, including three for writing on the rocks of the mountain, dumping wastes from car windows, and littering or leaving behind.

"More inspection patrols have been launched to curb pollution, protect the environment, and develop public environmental awareness."

The inspection campaigns have also been intensified at the famous sites of the emirate, Al Shehi pointed out. "These span Jebel Jais, Corniche Al Qawasim, the Old Corniche, as well as the beaches and parks of the emirate. Warning signs have been fitted in all natural areas and parks to encourage the public to protect the environment."

The department has further amended and developed all the inspection patrols to be environment friendly, mainly on the beaches and corniche, let alone the most famous site; Jebel Jais, Al Shei underlined.

"There will be no tolerance with any anti-environment violation," he said. "A fine of Dh500 is slapped against littering or dumping wastes from car window."
