UAE- 485 offences registered against salons in Al Ain

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Hundreds of salons and beauty parlours in Al Ain have been fined for violating health and hygiene rules.

The Al Ain Municipality said it has registered 485 offences against salons and beauty centres and issued 715 warnings to others this year.

Municipal officials said the outlets were identified during inspection visits carried out on 460 male salons and 330 beauty parlours across Al Ain city from the month of January to May.

The other offences committed by salons include using soiled or non-sterilised towels, poor public hygiene and sterilisation and other malpractices that undermine the health and safety of customers.

Municipal officials said they also seized packets of dodgy, expired and unlicensed cosmetic products including creams, fragrance sprays, hair clipping devices, shoddy cosmetics, skin cleansers, hair dyes and oil baths.

Fines of up to Dhs5,000 were imposed on the errant salon owners for flouting the law.

Ali Saeed Al Ketbi, head of the public health department at Al Ain Municipality, said: "A team of inspectors and supervisors visited women's beauty centres and male salons regularly to ensure that they comply with hygiene rules."

"The municipality will continue its endeavours to raise the public awareness about public health and safety aspects in beauty parlours and salons through regular workshops."
