Mumbai: Fighting couple's relatives spar with swords at counseling center

A normal argument between a husband and wife at the Women's Welfare Center in Mumbai unexpectedly turned into a full-blown fight with swords and knives, when their relatives jumped into the battleground.
Twenty-six-year-old Vikash Shirsat was at the Center with his 24-year-old wife Neha for marriage-counseling.
But neither was prepared for their relatives' physical intervention, which ended up injuring 10 people, including six police personnel.
Despite love marriage, Vikash and Neha had frequent fights
Case
Vikash had married Neha last year after the two fell in love, said V Dolas, Senior Inspector at Central police station.
But fights started soon. "For the last few months, Neha has been living with her family at Badlapur."
Vikash kept trying to make up, but she never received his calls, he told police.
Desperate, he then approached the Women's Welfare Center for help.

The Center called the couple for counseling. But during the session, they ended up fighting.
That's when their accompanying relatives did something unexpected. "Few ran to their homes and returned with swords and knives," recalled an officer from Thane commissionerate.
"When policewomen tried to stop the couple, they pushed the policewomen, while others rushed to their aide. However, they too were abused, and their clothes torn."
10 injured, nine arrested, case lodged

Fortunately, police staff reached the spot within minutes and broke up the fight. "We arrested nine people," said the officer. The nine included at least three relatives of Neha and four of Vikas. A case has been registered under relevant IPC sections.
