Eighty-one migrants were presented in the model foreign worker awards, while 52 unions were praised, the Central News Agency (CNA) reported.

Nguyen has been looking after elderly people on the island for 12 years. Before her arrival in Taiwan, she had received language training and learned Mandarin. Over the years her proficiency in Mandarin was recognized by the Ministry of Education.

She had also realized that quite a number of elderly people spoke Taiwanese Hokkien and taught herself the dialect so she could communicate better with them.

Nguyen had also won a green award from a primary school for her dedication in cleaning up the school's sports ground. I will continue with the good work, she said.
