Pakistan- Tribal women show reservations over bill extending jurisdiction of SC, PHC to FATA


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: Tribal women from civil society have shown reservations over approval of the bill by National Assembly for extension of the Supreme Court and Peshawar High Court jurisdiction to FATA.

Speaking at a press conference in Peshawar Press Club, members of organization Qabailee Khor Network voiced their reservations over the approval of bill by saying that the rights given to tribal women under article 246 and 247 are unclear and uncertain.

Nosheen Jamal, president of Qabaili Khor said that the bill was approved without the removal of article 246 and 247.

She also said that after waiting for decades, the tribal women also want relief however they have been ignored. She said that the criminal and civil courts have also not been added in the extension of SC and PHC jurisdiction to FATA bill thus ignoring a large number of tribal women.

The civil members also said that they are against federal government's decision that the courts will be extended till a specific time period.

On Tuesday, the president of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain signed the bill extending the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court and Peshawar High Court to the Federal Administered Tribal Areas on recommendation of the prime minister.

Lawmakers of all parties supported the bill however some allies of political parties opposed the bill.Senators belonging to Jamiat Ulema e Islam Fazl (JUIF), Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party and Fata Senator Taj Afridi protested against the law.
